Cookie Policy
Effective date: 2026-07-01
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit. They let the site remember things between pages and visits, such as whether you have already answered a consent banner.
Similar technologies, such as local storage, work in much the same way. In this policy we use the word "cookies" to cover all of them.
Cookies cannot run programs on your device, and the cookies we use cannot read your files or access other websites' data.
What we use
We keep our use of cookies deliberately small. There are three categories — essential, analytics, and advertising — and only the first is active before you choose:
Essential cookies are required for the website to function and are always active. They cannot be switched off through our settings because the site would not work safely without them.
- Consent storage — remembers the cookie choices you made, so we do not ask you again on every visit.
- Security — supports basic protections for the website and its forms, such as guarding against automated abuse.
- Regional site — we run this website at charge-back.uk for the United Kingdom and Europe and at charge-back.ca for Canada, and show visitors the one for where they are. If you choose the other one using the region links at the foot of any page, a cookie remembers that choice for six months so you are not moved back. It records only which of the two sites you chose.
Optional analytics
With your consent, we use privacy-safe analytics to understand, in aggregate, how the website is used — for example which pages are visited most. This helps us improve the guidance we publish.
Analytics data is aggregated and never includes the details of any enquiry or case you submit to us. If you decline analytics, the website works exactly the same.
Optional advertising
We advertise this service through Google Ads. With your consent, we use the Google Ads tag to measure which of our adverts led to an enquiry, and Google may use the same cookies to show you our adverts on other websites.
These cookies are set by Google, not by us, and they are only placed if you accept the Advertising category. Until you do, the tag runs in a restricted mode that stores nothing on your device and strips identifiers from the requests it makes. If you decline advertising, the website works exactly the same.
We never send Google the details of your enquiry — no name, contact details, case summary, or amount. What is measured is that an enquiry was submitted, not who submitted it or what it concerned.
What we do not use
It is just as important to be clear about what we deliberately avoid:
- No advertising cookies without your consent — nothing in the Advertising category is set unless you accept it, and you can withdraw that at any time.
- No case data in any tag — analytics and advertising tags never receive the content of an enquiry or any detail that could identify you.
- No sale of data — we do not sell, rent, or trade any information collected through cookies or otherwise.
Managing your preferences
You are always in control of optional cookies, and you can change your mind at any time:
- Cookie banner — when you first visit, the banner lets you accept or decline optional analytics and advertising separately, before any optional cookie is set.
- Cookie settings — the "Cookie settings" button in the website footer reopens your preferences at any time, so you can review or change your choices.
- Browser controls — most browsers let you block or delete cookies for any site. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of this website from working correctly.
Changes to this policy
If we change the cookies we use or how we use them, we will update this page and the effective date shown on it, and we will ask for consent again where the change requires it.
